Paris provides pop-up beaches for summer fun

Summer is upon us in a blaze of glorious sunshine and the mercury continues to climb... But don’t let the heatwave make you abandon your plans for a break in Paris because the capital has everything you need to keep cool as temperatures soar! Perhaps you’ve already heard of Paris Plages (Paris Beaches), the capital’s pop-up seaside resort? Now without sand due to environmental considerations, it’s still as successful as it’s ever been since launching in 2002. The Hotel de l’Universite tells you more...

Paris Plages

Paris Plages provides parasols, palm trees and deckchairs so you can relax in comfort amidst the sunshine. This has been the case for 15 years, to the delight of both Parisians and visitors to the capital. The Right Bank of the Seine between the Pont de Sully and the Pont Neuf, as well as the spaces adjacent to the three temporary swimming pools in the Bassin de la Villette (Quai de Loire) are turned into pop-up resorts for the duration of the summer. These leisure areas offer sports, entertainment, refreshments and petanque, plus yoga, tai chi and Zumba classes, and much more.

Reading and bathing; time for summer activities

We often use our holiday leisure time to catch up with some reading, an activity often squeezed out of our busy lives during the rest of the year. Take advantage of the pop-up libraries provided by the Paris Plages project to immerse yourself in a gripping novel! And you’ll also have plenty of time to enjoy some swimming in the waters of the Bassin de la Villette. There’s a children’s pool and two pools for adults; one for serious swimmers and another for those who just want to take a casual dip. Pedalos and canoes are available if you want to venture further out on the city’s largest artificial lake.
