Sportive spring in Paris

Sportive spring in Paris

The arrival of spring looks bright this year with no less than two major sporting events. The French Open tennis tournament at the Stade Roland Garros and the Ice Hockey World Championships are both held in Paris to the great delight of sports enthusiasts.

The French Open; a major event in world tennis

From May 22nd to June 11th, the Stade Roland Garros will see the return of a tournament that simply pulsates with suspense and an electric atmosphere. A must-see for all tennis fans, the French Open will bring together the elite of world tennis in a city shaking clash of titans to determine who will succeed Garbiñe Muguruza Blanco and Novak Djokovic. The only Grand Slam played on clay, this tournament has been a great success for many years. The surface makes the ball bounce higher and more slowly, resulting in longer points that draw out the tension for spectators. In the very heart of the chic 16th arrondissement of Paris and a stone's throw from the Bois de Boulogne, the competition is also conducive to luxury shopping thanks to the numerous boutiques scattered throughout the complex.

The Ice Hockey World Championships; a major event in winter sports

Although it’s a sport typical of the Far North but relatively unknown in France, ice hockey still attracts an enthusiastic following here. The 81st World Championship takes place in Cologne, and in Paris at the AccorHotels Arena. Dominated by Russia, which has 27 gold medals, and Canada, the current title holder, the sport’s highest profile international tournament dates back to 1920. Taking place from May 5th to 21st, this will be an exciting and dynamic competition. Close to the new AccorHotels Arena, the Hotel Universite welcomes you in the very heart of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district for an ideal stay in the capital.
