Enjoy the summer and celebrate Bastille Day in Paris
The June 21st music festival we told you about last time marks the beginning of a full season of events in Paris, including the Summer Sales from June 25th to July 29th. Here are some we are certain you will enjoy.
From the stirring sight of the military might of France being paraded along the Champs Elysees before the President of the Republic, to the colourful and exciting spectacle of the evening fireworks display illuminating the mighty iron lattice flanks of the Eiffel Tower, the French National Day is one of wonder, pride and joy. You are welcome to join this commemoration of the freeing of the French people from oppression and stand shoulder to shoulder with us in a spirit of fraternity. Experience the magic of July 14th.
Spend a day on the beach in Paris, and watch a movie beneath the stars
You may have heard of Paris Plages (Paris Beaches), and wondered what it could possibly be about. After all, Paris is a long way from the seaside. Well, that’s true, so the ingenious people of the capital decided that the seaside should come to them. Each summer for a number of years large stretches of the Seine-side have been closed to traffic, covered in a deep layer of sand and taken on a beach resort ambience that is hard to resist. Come along, stretch out on the sand and relax, or join in with the many water and beach sports on offer. Then in the evening chill out by enjoying a free music concert.
Hire a deckchair or a blanket and take your place beneath the comforting mantle of the night sky. Break out the picnic and wait for the film to start, surrounded by the loveliness of the Parc de la Villette. From July 23rd to August 27th this is the venue for an open air cinematic experience with a unique atmosphere. The giant screen springs to life and you can enjoy a blockbuster, an old favourite or an indie flick. It’s free of charge and there’s something different every night. It’s a special way to savour the magic of the movies.
All the fun of the fair in Paris
Taking their name from the tile factories which stood on the site until the 16th century, when Queen Catherine de Medici built her palace, the Tuileries Gardens hold a special place in the hearts of Parisians. It’s a beautiful place, but should you need even more of a reason to visit, the Fête des Tuileries takes place from June 28th to August 24th. This traditional style funfair with its rides, booths, sideshows, an antique merry-go-round dating from 1900 and a big, beautiful Ferris wheel, makes for a great family outing.
