Visiting Paris in Springtime will reinvigorate You

Visiting Paris in Springtime is an experience you really do owe it to yourself to try. Nature is being reborn and reaching out to the sun, birds are cheerily announcing their presence, lovers embrace on park benches and the city looks even lovelier than usual. When a Parisian getaway is called for, remember that the Hotel de l’Université and its central location places you close to many tourist attractions and business districts. Here are some of the delights available just a short walk from our hotel.

Visiting Paris in Springtime is full of fascination

As the weather grows warmer we seek out the café terraces. One of the world’s most famous is the Café de Flore, ahaunt of intellectuals and celebrities. Mahogany, mirrors and red seating are the hallmarks of the beautifully preserved Art Deco interior. Sit where Picasso, Sartre and Camus once took their ease, sip a coffee and watch the ebb and flow of the city.

The unfolding of Spring draws both Parisians and tourists to the parks and gardens. The Jardin du Luxembourg is the second largest public park in Paris, established by Henry IV’s widow Marie de Medici in 1611 to remind her of her childhood home in Italy. Today it remains a splendid green space at the city’s heart. Why not go along and enjoy the live concerts which take place on the bandstand there? Jazz, big band, classical, choral…there is something for every musical taste.

Then while you are in the vicinity, don’t forget to check out the Luxembourg Museum, which was in 1750 the first Paris museum to be opened to the public. The Josephine exhibition, running until June 29th, marks the 200th anniversary of the passing of the Empress Josephine, wife of Napoleon Bonaparte. Enter the private world of this intriguing woman via personal mementos and items from her personal art collection.

A few steps from the Hotel de l’Universite you will find the embankments of the Seine, a national heritage site. Take a one hour cruise courtesy of Vedettes du Pont Neuf, a relaxing way to see the sights that is both educational and romantic. Enjoy the superb views from the Pont des Arts, a seven arched steel bridge of exceptional grace where lovers meet and artists gather to draw inspiration from the views.

Finally, how about exploring the capital in a way that is both fun and different? The Paris Velib system is the largest bicycle sharing scheme in the world. Just turn up at one of the 1,800 bike stations, available 24/7, select your ride and go! The first thirty minutes are free of charge and the nearest station is just a four minute walk from our hotel.
